Editorial standards

How we research & choose

We do not pretend desk research is a sleep lab. Our recommendations combine current official specifications, independently published context and a clear explanation of who each product does—and does not—suit.

01

Three evidence types stay separate

Manufacturer facts cover product-specific materials, dimensions, care, warranty and certification identifiers. Independent context comes from standards bodies, authoritative guidance and established editorial reviews. Our interpretation connects those facts to a reader scenario and is labeled as editorial judgment.

A manufacturer statement is evidence of what the brand currently claims, not independent proof that the claimed benefit will occur for every sleeper. Product analyses therefore show the official source, the date checked and the practical limitations beside the claimed benefit.

  • Official facts are linked and date-checked
  • Independent context is identified by source
  • Editorial interpretation never becomes a fake measurement
  • Unstable prices, ratings and stock are checked live

02

Research starts with the search intent

We first identify what a reader is actually deciding: fill, warmth, care, price, climate or fit. Search-result and related-question research helps us answer that decision rather than publish another generic product list.

We review standards organizations for technical claims, authoritative primary guidance where health or safety matters, established editorial testing where it exists and current manufacturer pages for product-specific details.

  • One canonical owner for each search intent
  • Real SERP and related-question research
  • Current specifications and care instructions
  • Cannibalization and internal-link checks before publication

03

Products are compared, not laboratory-tested by us

The site is produced by The Duvet Advisor Editorial Team. Our editors analyze published expert research, verified product specifications and relevant standards to build practical bedding guides in plain English.

Unless a page explicitly documents otherwise, we have not personally slept under every listed comforter. We avoid first-person test claims, proprietary star scores and false precision. A top pick is an editorial judgment based on the criteria printed on that page.

  • No invented hands-on experience
  • No pay-to-rank placements
  • No site-created star ratings
  • Clear best-for and not-ideal-if guidance

04

Criteria change with the decision

A cooling guide emphasizes fill amount, shell weave and moisture context. A winter guide emphasizes insulation and room temperature. A wool guide treats care and physical weight differently from a down guide. We publish those criteria so the ranking can be challenged rather than accepted on trust alone.

A taller loft, higher thread count or premium material name is not automatically better. The finished construction, use case and ownership requirements determine whether a specification is useful.

05

Freshness and corrections

Prices, stock, retailer ratings and product specifications can change. We date guides, link product sources and replace material details when the current official record contradicts an older description.

We do not freeze unstable Amazon ratings as permanent product scores. Readers should verify the selected variant, seller, current rating, review total, price and returns on the retailer page before buying.

  • Visible publication and modification dates
  • Source-check dates on product analyses
  • No invented availability or price guarantees
  • Material changes corrected at the canonical product record

06

Affiliate revenue stays separate from placement

The site may earn a commission after a qualifying purchase, at no extra cost to the reader. That relationship is explained before commercial comparisons and in our affiliate disclosure.

A higher commission does not buy a higher position. We include products because they fit the page's decision framework, and we keep non-affiliate official and supporting source links available for verification.

  • Amazon links route through transparent /go/ paths
  • OneLink may localize the eligible Amazon store
  • Negative trade-offs remain visible
  • Official-source links do not depend on commission
